Necessary predictions
PROTIDE will make use of water level, wave and current predictions around the Euro-Maas and IJgeul. The more accurate of course the better. The first version will only make use of the data that is available at HMCN. There are three types of data available.
- long term predictions or astronomical data
- rough 24 hour predictions from the models HMCN uses for a very fine grid
- detailed adjusted (by HMCN) 24 hour predictions for 2 points by the Euro-Maas (Euro platform (EPL) and Hoek van Holland (HvH)) and one point by the IJgeul (IJmuiden Buitenhaven)
We are planning to load the PROTIDE database in advance with available long term predictions (astronomical data) and periodically check if HMCN has new 24 hour predictions available. HMCN standard makes new predictions every 6 hours, but does this more frequently during heavy conditions (every 3 hours). PROTIDE will make use of these predictions via the "matroos" portal (MATROOS stands for Multifunctional Access Tool foR Operational Oceandata Services), which we are trying to get access to.
The adjusted has by far the best quality and should be used, but these are only available for three points around the channels of interest. For the Euro-Maas channel we plan to interpolate all available between the two available points. For the IJgeul we will use the adjusted data for the one point, calculate the performed adjustment by comparison with the rough model results at the same point and then apply the same adjustment to other points along the channel to estimate the necessary other data points.
