When a route is found, it is analyzed in detail to calculate statistics on the water level, channel depth, UKC, squat, swell height, vertical motion and bottom touch probability per kilometer position. Also the down time, wait time, UKC and bottom touch probability are calculated for the whole route.

Analysis of the advice route

When a route is found, it is analyzed in detail to be able to report interesting statistics on the route. This analysis consists of traversing the route and for all kilometer points recalculate its safety at that time. This is done by calling the same monte carlo simulation as is done by the fixed location variable time safety calculation function described in the calculation of the safe time location diagram. With the result we can report statistics on the water level, channel depth, UKC, squat, swell height, vertical motion and bottom touch probability for each part of the route. The UKC and bottom touch probability is actually reported in the tidal window advice module in the bottom touch probability diagram.

Calculation of route statistics

Finally some statistics about the advice as a whole are calculated:
  • The down time is defined as the maximum fraction of "non safe" time over all kilometer positions (the largest amount of "white" in one horizontal line in the diagram).
  • The wait time is the difference between the requested departure time and the departure time of the advice route.
  • The under keel clearance and the under keel clearance with squat reduction are the averages over all kilometer positions for the advice route.
  • The bottom touch probability the upper bound (95% confidence level) of the bottom touch probability for the whole channel voyage. This figure can be compared to the Maximum route bottom touch probability setting.
